He's got a lot of Hellboy in his design (shorts, pouches, grenades, revolvers -- the goggles even mimic the horns when they're up). It was a lot of fun to draw. I want to draw adventure stories with him now.

Yes! I was gonna bug out to scan these and post them. Nice. Fun stuff! And nice form to them.
I cherish the way Ryan's mind works: I love monkeys, I love cowboys... Why don't I make monkey cowboys?!
Cowboy Monkeys are like the Agadoni equivalent of Dino-Riders.
...yeah. Yeah.
But he's a little different! He has an aviator cap and goggles, and grenades! More of a 30s adventurer than a straight cowboy.
But honestly, the process you described is indeed exactly how I came up with the idea for my comic.
"Hmm, what do I love to draw? Cowboys, monkeys, weird creatures...I know! I'll 'write' a 'story' where cowboy monkeys fight weird creatures!"
